Code P2081 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

P2081 is a diagnostic trouble code that indicates an intermittent issue with the exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit in Bank 1 Sensor 1 of a vehicle.

Code symptoms P2081.

1. Check Engine Light illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Irregular or fluctuating exhaust gas temperature readings.
3. Engine may run rough or hesitate during acceleration.
4. Reduced fuel efficiency or increased emissions output.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P2081.

1. Loose or corroded connections in the wiring harness of the exhaust gas temperature sensor circuit.
2. Malfunctioning exhaust gas temperature sensor.
3. Faulty engine control module (ECM).
4. Exhaust leaks near the sensor causing inaccurate readings.
5. Water intrusion or physical damage to the sensor or its wiring.


Code Solutions P2081.

1. Inspect the wiring harness and connector for any damage or corrosion. Repair or replace as necessary.
2. Check the exhaust gas temperature sensor for proper operation and replace if faulty.
3. Perform a powertrain control module (PCM) reset by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes and then reconnecting it.
4. Clear the diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) from the PCM and monitor the sensor readings to see if the issue persists.
5. If the problem persists, consider seeking assistance from a qualified mechanic or dealership for further diagnosis and repair.
