Code P0974 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

P0974 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating that there is a high voltage condition detected in the control circuit of shift solenoid “A” in the transmission system.

P0974 Shift Solenoid “A” Control Circuit High

Code symptoms P0974.

1. Erratic shifting: The vehicle may experience erratic shifting patterns, such as harsh shifting or delayed shifting, due to issues with the shift solenoid control circuit.

2. Transmission slippage: A faulty shift solenoid control circuit can cause the transmission to slip, resulting in a loss of power and acceleration while driving.

3. Illuminated Check Engine Light: The On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) system may detect the high voltage in the shift solenoid “A” control circuit and trigger the Check Engine Light to alert the driver of a potential issue.

4. Decreased fuel efficiency: A malfunctioning shift solenoid control circuit can lead to poor transmission performance, which may result in decreased fuel efficiency as the engine works harder to compensate for the shifting problems.

Causes of the code P0974.

1. Faulty shift solenoid “A”: The shift solenoid “A” may be malfunctioning, resulting in a high control circuit causing the P0974 trouble code.

2. Wiring issues: Damage or corrosion in the wiring harness connected to the shift solenoid “A” can lead to high resistance in the circuit, triggering the P0974 code.

3. Poor electrical connection: A poor connection between the shift solenoid “A” and the vehicle’s electrical system can also cause the control circuit to read high, causing the P0974 error code.

4. Internal transmission problems: Internal issues within the transmission, such as fluid contamination or mechanical failures, can affect the shift solenoid “A” and trigger the P0974 code.

5. Software or programming issues: Sometimes, the P0974 code may be triggered due to software glitches or programming errors in the transmission control module, causing incorrect readings in the control circuit.

Code Solutions P0974.

1. Check the wiring and connectors associated with shift solenoid “A” for any damage or corrosion. Repair or replace as needed.
2. Test the shift solenoid “A” to ensure it is functioning properly. Replace the solenoid if it is faulty.
3. Inspect the transmission control module (TCM) for any signs of damage or malfunction. Reset or replace the TCM if necessary.
4. Perform a thorough diagnostic scan to identify any other trouble codes that may be affecting the shift solenoid “A” circuit.
5. Clear the fault codes and perform a test drive to verify that the issue has been resolved.
