Code P0815 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0815 trouble code pertains to the upshift switch circuit.


P0815 Upshift Switch Circuit

Code symptoms P0815.

1. Malfunctioning upshift switch.
2. Inoperative or erratic upshifting.
3. Check Engine Light (CEL) or Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate on the dashboard.


Causes of the code P0815.

1. Faulty upshift switch.
2. Wiring issues such as shorts, opens, or damaged wiring harness.
3. Corroded or loose electrical connections related to the upshift switch circuit.
4. Malfunctioning transmission control module (TCM) or body control module (BCM).


Code Solutions P0815.

1. Use an OBD-II scanner to retrieve freeze frame data and any other stored trouble codes. This information can provide insight into when and how the malfunction occurred.
2. Inspect the upshift switch and its wiring for signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Replace or repair any damaged components or wiring as needed.
3. Perform a continuity test on the upshift switch circuit to check for any electrical faults. Repair any open circuits or shorts found during the test.
4. Test the upshift switch using a multimeter to verify its functionality. If it’s not working properly, replace it with a new one.
5. Check the TCM or BCM for any fault codes or malfunctions related to the upshift switch circuit. If necessary, perform a diagnostic scan of the module and address any issues found.
