Code P0773 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0773 trouble code indicates an electrical issue with shift solenoid E in the transmission. Shift solenoids are responsible for controlling the flow of transmission fluid to engage or disengage specific gears, facilitating smooth shifting. Solenoid E typically governs the operation of the fifth gear.

Shift Solenoid “E” Electrical

Code symptoms P0773.

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Transmission shifting issues, such as harsh or delayed shifting, or failure to shift at all.
3. Vehicle may go into limp mode to prevent further damage.
4. Decreased fuel efficiency due to improper transmission shifting.

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0773.

1. Electrical problems with shift solenoid E, such as a short circuit, open circuit, or high resistance.
2. Wiring harness or connector damage, corrosion, or loose connections affecting solenoid operation.
3. Faulty transmission control module (TCM) or engine control module (ECM).
4. Internal transmission issues affecting solenoid operation, such as valve body problems or mechanical failures.

Code Solutions P0773.

1. Begin by using a scan tool to clear the trouble codes and monitor the transmission’s behavior during a test drive. Note any abnormal shifting patterns or symptoms.
2. Perform a visual inspection of the wiring harness and connectors associated with shift solenoid E for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Repair or replace any damaged wiring or connectors as needed.
3. Use a multimeter to perform voltage and continuity tests on the shift solenoid and related circuits to check for proper operation. Ensure that the solenoid is receiving power and ground as commanded by the TCM or ECM.
4. If the solenoid and circuits check out okay, consider performing a hydraulic pressure test on the transmission to verify proper fluid pressure. This can help identify any internal transmission issues affecting solenoid operation.
5. If you’re unable to diagnose or repair the issue yourself, consider seeking assistance from a qualified mechanic or transmission specialist. They have the expertise and specialized equipment needed to diagnose and repair transmission problems effectively.
