Code P0637 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0637 trouble code indicates that the power steering control circuit is experiencing a high voltage condition. This code is stored when the Engine Control Module (ECM) detects a voltage signal from the power steering control circuit that is higher than the specified threshold.

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) is illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Power steering may become stiff or difficult to operate.
3. Loss of power steering assistance.
4. Unusual noises coming from the power steering system.
5. Potential drivability issues.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0637.

1. High voltage supply to the power steering control circuit.
2. Wiring or connector issues in the power steering control circuit, leading to voltage interference or spikes.
3. Faulty power steering control module.
4. Faulty power steering pressure sensor.
5. ECM or PCM malfunction.


Code Solutions P0637.

1. Check the battery voltage and charging system to ensure they are operating within specifications. Replace the battery if it’s overcharging.
2. Inspect the wiring and connectors in the power steering control circuit for any signs of damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged components as needed.
3. Test the power steering system for proper operation and check for any mechanical issues such as leaks or damaged components.
4. Use a diagnostic scan tool to retrieve freeze frame data and other related trouble codes for further diagnosis.
5. If the power steering control module is faulty, it may need to be replaced.
6. Clear the trouble codes and perform a test drive to verify that the issue has been resolved. If the code persists, further diagnosis may be required.
