Code P0586 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0586 trouble code indicates an open circuit in the cruise control vent control circuit. The cruise control vent control circuit is responsible for controlling the vacuum to the cruise control servo, which adjusts the throttle to maintain a set speed.

Code symptoms P0586.

1. Inoperative cruise control system.
2. Difficulty engaging or disengaging cruise control.
3. Cruise control functions not responding as expected.
4. Check Engine Light illuminated.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0586.

1. Faulty cruise control vent control solenoid.
2. Open or short circuit in the cruise control vent control circuit wiring.
3. Corroded or damaged terminals in the cruise control vent control circuit connectors.
4. Defective cruise control module.


Code Solutions P0586.

1. Inspect the cruise control vent control solenoid for proper operation and replace if necessary.
2. Check for any open or short circuits in the cruise control vent control circuit wiring and repair as needed.
3. Thoroughly inspect the terminals in the cruise control vent control circuit connectors for corrosion or damage. Clean or replace any affected terminals.
4. If all other components check out, consider replacing the cruise control module.
