The P0500 trouble code indicates a malfunction in the Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) “A” circuit. The VSS is a crucial component that monitors the speed of the vehicle and sends this information to the engine control module (ECM) or transmission control module (TCM). The ECM or TCM uses this data for various functions, including fuel injection, transmission shifting, and speedometer operation.
