Code P0496 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0496 trouble code indicates that the evaporative emission (EVAP) system has detected flow during a non-purge condition. The EVAP system is responsible for capturing and storing fuel vapors from the fuel tank to prevent them from escaping into the atmosphere. During certain conditions, such as engine operation, the EVAP system should be sealed off to prevent the escape of fuel vapors. However, if flow is detected when the system should be sealed, it suggests a leak or malfunction in the EVAP system.
