The P0494 trouble code indicates that the electric cooling fan is running at a lower speed than expected. The electric cooling fan helps regulate the temperature of the engine and prevent overheating by drawing air through the radiator when the vehicle is stationary or moving at low speeds.

1. Inspect the electric cooling fan for any signs of damage or wear. Replace the fan if it is defective.
2. Check the wiring and connectors associated with the cooling fan circuit for damage, corrosion, or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged components as needed.
3. Test the cooling fan relay for proper operation. Replace the relay if it is faulty.
4. Verify the operation of the coolant temperature sensor using diagnostic tools. Replace the sensor if it is sending incorrect signals to the ECM.
5. Ensure that the ECM software is up-to-date. If necessary, reflash or update the ECM software to the latest version.
