Code P0485 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0485 trouble code indicates a malfunction in the power or ground circuit of the cooling fan. This means that there is an issue with the electrical connection supplying power to the cooling fan or with the ground connection used for the fan’s operation.


Cooling Fan Power/Ground Circuit Malfunction

Code symptoms P0485.

1. Engine overheating.
2. Inoperative cooling fan.
3. Continuous operation of the cooling fan.
4. Illumination of the “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light on the dashboard.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0485.

1. Faulty cooling fan motor.
2. Poor electrical connection or corrosion in the cooling fan power or ground circuit.
3. Damaged or corroded wiring harness or connectors in the cooling fan circuit.
4. Faulty cooling fan relay.
5. Defective Engine Control Module (ECM), although this is less common.


Code Solutions P0485.

1. Inspect the cooling fan motor for signs of damage or failure. Replace if necessary.
2. Check the electrical connections in the cooling fan power and ground circuits for corrosion, looseness, or poor contact. Clean or repair connections as needed.
3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors in the cooling fan circuit for damage or corrosion. Repair or replace any damaged components.
4. Test the cooling fan relay and replace it if it’s faulty.
5. Perform a diagnostic test on the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine if it’s functioning correctly. Replace if necessary.
