Code P0484 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0484 trouble code indicates that there is an overcurrent condition detected in the cooling fan circuit. This means that the current flowing through the cooling fan circuit exceeds the predetermined threshold, leading the Engine Control Module (ECM) to trigger this fault code.

Cooling Fan Circuit Over Current

Code symptoms P0484.

1. Overheating of the engine.
2. Intermittent or continuous operation of the cooling fans even when not required.
3. The “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light may illuminate on the dashboard.

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0484.

1. Faulty cooling fan motor.
2. Short circuit in the cooling fan wiring.
3. Defective cooling fan relay.
4. Excessive load on the cooling fan circuit due to high electrical resistance.
5. Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM), although this is less common.

Code Solutions P0484.

1. Inspect the cooling fan motor for any signs of damage or failure. Replace if necessary.
2. Check the wiring harness and connectors in the cooling fan circuit for any signs of damage, corrosion, or short circuits. Repair or replace as needed.
3. Test the cooling fan relay and replace it if it’s faulty.
4. Ensure that the cooling fan blades turn freely and are not obstructed.
5. Perform a diagnostic test on the Engine Control Module (ECM) to determine if it’s functioning correctly. Replace if necessary.
