Code P0451 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0451 trouble code is associated with the Evaporative Emission Control System Pressure Sensor Range or Performance. It indicates that the pressure sensor in the evaporative emission control system is detecting a range or performance issue, suggesting a deviation from the expected pressure levels.

Code symptoms P0451.

1. Illuminated “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light on the dashboard.
2. Strong fuel odor near the vehicle.
3. Rough engine idle or stalling.
4. Difficulty starting the engine.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0451.

1. Faulty evaporative emission control system pressure sensor.
2. Wiring or connector issues in the pressure sensor circuit.
3. Corrosion or damage to the pressure sensor.
4. Fuel tank over-pressurization.
5. Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM).


Code Solutions P0451.

1. Inspect the evaporative emission control system pressure sensor for proper operation and replace if found faulty.
2. Check the wiring and connectors in the pressure sensor circuit for damage or corrosion and repair as necessary.
3. Ensure proper electrical connections to the pressure sensor and repair any loose or damaged connections.
4. Check for fuel tank over-pressurization issues and address them accordingly.
5. If other potential causes are ruled out, consider diagnosing and possibly replacing the ECM.
