P2142 code indicates a high voltage condition in the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) throttle control circuit A.

– Check Engine Light illuminated

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P2142.

1. Faulty Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) throttle control module
2. Wiring issues such as shorts or opens in the circuit
3. Defective EGR throttle position sensor
4. EGR valve stuck in the closed position
5. Corrosion or poor connections in the EGR throttle control circuit


Code Solutions P2142.

1. Check the EGR throttle control circuit for any loose or damaged connections. Repair or replace any faulty wiring or connectors.

2. Test the EGR throttle control solenoid or motor for proper functioning. Replace the solenoid or motor if it is defective.

3. Clean the EGR valve and throttle body to ensure they are free from carbon buildup or debris that could be affecting their operation.

4. Verify that the EGR system is receiving the correct voltage and signals from the vehicle’s engine control module. Reset or reprogram the ECM if necessary.

5. Perform a comprehensive inspection of the entire EGR system to identify any other potential issues that may be causing the high circuit reading. Address any additional problems found during the inspection.
