Code P0985 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

P0985 Shift Solenoid “E” Control Circuit Low is a diagnostic trouble code that indicates a low voltage condition in the control circuit of the Shift Solenoid “E,” which can affect the vehicle’s shifting performance.

P0985 Shift Solenoid “E” Control Circuit Low

Code symptoms P0985.

– Delayed or harsh shifting
– Transmission slipping
– Difficulty selecting gears
– Illuminated check engine light

Causes of the code P0985.

1. Faulty shift solenoid “E”: The shift solenoid itself may be malfunctioning, causing the control circuit to register a low voltage.
2. Wiring issues: There may be a short or open circuit in the wiring connecting the shift solenoid “E” to the vehicle’s control module.
3. Corroded connectors: Corrosion or poor connections at the solenoid connector or control module can disrupt the voltage signal.
4. Faulty control module: The control module responsible for controlling the shift solenoid “E” may be failing, leading to low voltage readings.
5. Electrical issues: Other electrical problems within the vehicle’s transmission system can also cause the control circuit to register as low for the shift solenoid “E”.

Code Solutions P0985.

1. Check the shift solenoid “E” for any damage or wear and tear. Replace the solenoid if necessary.

2. Inspect the wiring and connectors associated with the shift solenoid “E” for any breaks or corrosion. Repair or replace any damaged components.

3. Perform a diagnostic scan of the vehicle’s engine control module (ECM) to pinpoint any fault codes related to the shift solenoid “E” control circuit low. Address any identified issues accordingly.

4. Ensure that the transmission fluid level is at the appropriate level and is in good condition. Low or contaminated fluid can affect the performance of the shift solenoid.

5. Reset the ECM to clear any stored error codes and then test drive the vehicle to see if the issue with the shift solenoid “E” control circuit low has been resolved. If the problem persists, further troubleshooting may be necessary.
