Code P0983 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

P0983 is a diagnostic trouble code indicating a high voltage condition in the control circuit of Shift Solenoid “D” in a vehicle’s transmission system.

– Difficulty shifting gears
– Harsh or delayed shifting
– Check engine light illuminated
– Transmission slipping or overheating


Causes of the code P0983.

1. Faulty shift solenoid “D”
2. Wiring or connector issues in the shift solenoid “D” circuit
3. Transmission control module (TCM) malfunction
4. Low transmission fluid level or contaminated fluid
5. Electrical interference or short circuits in the shift solenoid “D” circuit


Code Solutions P0983.

1. Check the shift solenoid “D” control circuit for any loose or damaged connections.
2. Inspect the wiring harness connected to the shift solenoid “D” for any signs of damage or wear.
3. Test the shift solenoid “D” using a multimeter to ensure it is functioning properly.
4. Scan the vehicle’s computer system for any trouble codes and address any additional related issues.
5. Reset the vehicle’s computer system by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes, then reconnecting it to see if the code reappears.
