Code P0714 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0714 trouble code indicates that the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit is experiencing intermittent issues. The sensor measures the temperature of the transmission fluid and sends voltage signals corresponding to this temperature to the engine control module (ECM) or transmission control module (TCM). Intermittent issues suggest that the sensor circuit is occasionally failing to provide accurate readings or failing to transmit data altogether.

Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor Circuit Intermittent

Code symptoms P0714.

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Inaccurate transmission fluid temperature readings displayed on the instrument panel.
3. Erratic shifting behavior, including delayed or harsh shifts.
4. Transmission slipping or overheating.
5. Reduced fuel efficiency.
6. Intermittent or sporadic operation of the transmission.

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0714.

1. Faulty transmission fluid temperature sensor.
2. Loose or corroded electrical connectors in the sensor circuit.
3. Damaged or frayed wiring harness.
4. Poor electrical connections or intermittent short circuits in the sensor circuit.
5. Intermittent sensor failure due to heat or vibration.
6. Faulty ECM or TCM.

Code Solutions P0714.

1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors in the transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit for any signs of damage, looseness, or corrosion. Repair or replace damaged components and ensure tight connections.
2. Test the transmission fluid temperature sensor for proper operation using a multimeter or scan tool. Replace the sensor if it is found to be faulty.
3. Clear the trouble codes from the ECM or TCM memory and perform a test drive to see if the issue recurs. If the CEL illuminates again with the same code, further diagnosis may be necessary.
4. Monitor the sensor circuit while the vehicle is running to identify any intermittent issues. Wiggle test the wiring harness and connectors to replicate the problem.
5. If other potential causes have been ruled out, consider consulting a professional technician or dealership for further diagnosis and repair. They may need to perform more advanced diagnostics using specialized tools.
