Code P0713 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0713 trouble code indicates that the Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit is reporting a high input signal to the engine control module (ECM) or transmission control module (TCM). This sensor measures the temperature of the transmission fluid and sends voltage signals corresponding to this temperature to the ECM or TCM. A high input signal suggests that the transmission fluid temperature is above the expected range.

Code symptoms P0713.

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Inaccurate transmission fluid temperature readings displayed on the instrument panel.
3. Erratic shifting behavior, including delayed or harsh shifts.
4. Transmission slipping or overheating.
5. Reduced fuel efficiency.

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0713.

1. Faulty transmission fluid temperature sensor.
2. Short circuit in the wiring harness connected to the transmission fluid temperature sensor.
3. Corroded or damaged electrical connectors in the circuit.
4. High transmission fluid level or overheating, leading to higher-than-normal fluid temperatures.
5. Malfunctioning ECM or TCM.

Code Solutions P0713.

1. Check the transmission fluid level and condition. If the fluid level is too high or if it’s degraded, drain or suction out excess fluid and refill with the appropriate type and amount of fluid.
2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors in the transmission fluid temperature sensor circuit for any signs of damage, looseness, or corrosion. Repair or replace damaged components and ensure tight connections.
3. Test the transmission fluid temperature sensor for proper operation using a multimeter or scan tool. Replace the sensor if it is found to be faulty.
4. Clear the trouble codes from the ECM or TCM memory and perform a test drive to see if the issue recurs. If the CEL illuminates again with the same code, further diagnosis may be necessary.
5. If other potential causes have been ruled out, consider consulting a professional technician or dealership for further diagnosis and repair. They may need to perform more advanced diagnostics using specialized tools.
