Code P0706 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0706 trouble code indicates a range or performance issue within the Transmission Range Sensor A Circuit. This sensor, also known as the PRNDL (Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive, Low) sensor, is responsible for detecting the gearshift lever position and transmitting that information to the vehicle’s engine control module (ECM) or transmission control module (TCM). The code suggests that there is an abnormality in the range or performance of the sensor circuit.

Code symptoms P0706.

1. Check Engine Light (CEL) illuminated on the dashboard.
2. Difficulty starting the vehicle.
3. Inability to shift gears or erratic shifting behavior.
4. Incorrect gear indicator display on the instrument panel.
5. Loss of power or engine stalling while driving.

This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0706.

1. Faulty transmission range sensor.
2. Misalignment or improper installation of the transmission range sensor.
3. Wiring or connector issues in the transmission range sensor circuit.
4. Corrosion or poor electrical connections in the circuitry.
5. Internal ECM or TCM failure.

Code Solutions P0706.

1. Begin by using a diagnostic scanner to retrieve freeze frame data and all associated trouble codes. This information can help pinpoint the root cause of the transmission range sensor issue.
2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors in the transmission range sensor circuit for any signs of damage or corrosion. Repair or replace damaged components as needed.
3. Test the transmission range sensor for proper operation using a multimeter or scan tool. Replace the sensor if it is faulty.
4. Check for proper alignment and installation of the transmission range sensor. Incorrect installation can lead to sensor malfunctions.
5. Clear the trouble codes from the vehicle’s memory and perform a test drive to verify that the issue has been resolved. If the code returns, further diagnosis may be necessary to identify the underlying problem.
