Code P0513 Symptoms, Causes and Solutions.

The P0513 trouble code indicates that the Engine Control Module (ECM) has detected an incorrect immobilizer key. The immobilizer system is designed to prevent unauthorized starting of the engine by using electronic communication between the key and the vehicle’s ECM.

1. Engine may not start.
2. Check Engine Light (CEL) is illuminated on the dashboard.
3. Immobilizer warning light may illuminate on the dashboard.
4. Vehicle may start and then immediately stall.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

1. Incorrect or unrecognized key being used to start the vehicle.
2. Faulty key fob or immobilizer system components.
3. Issues with the key transponder or transponder antenna.

Code Solutions P0513.

1. Ensure that the correct key is being used to start the vehicle. Use a spare key if available to see if the problem persists.
2. Check for any visible damage to the key fob or signs of wear. If the key fob appears damaged, replace it with a new one and reprogram it to the vehicle.
3. Inspect the key transponder and transponder antenna for any damage or corrosion. Replace any faulty components.
4. Use a diagnostic scanner to retrieve the trouble code and perform a comprehensive scan of the immobilizer system. Follow the manufacturer’s troubleshooting procedures to identify the root cause of the issue.
