The P0457 trouble code indicates an Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected. This points to a significant leak in the vehicle’s evaporative emission control system, allowing fuel vapors to escape into the atmosphere.

Code symptoms P0457.

1. Illuminated “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light on the dashboard.
2. Smell of fuel around the vehicle, especially noticeable near the fuel filler neck.
3. Noticeable decrease in fuel efficiency.
4. Audible hissing noise from the fuel tank area.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0457.

1. Loose or improperly sealed fuel cap.
2. Damage or corrosion to hoses, tubes, or connectors in the evaporative emission control system.
3. Cracked or deteriorated fuel filler neck.
4. Faulty or damaged fuel tank pressure sensor.
5. Malfunctioning evaporative emission system purge valve.
6. Damage to the fuel tank itself.


Code Solutions P0457.

1. Ensure the fuel cap is securely tightened and properly sealed. Replace the cap if damaged.
2. Thoroughly inspect all hoses, tubes, and connectors in the evaporative emission control system for damage or corrosion. Replace any faulty components.
