The P0449 trouble code is associated with the Evaporative Emission Control System Vent Valve or Solenoid Circuit Malfunction. It points to an issue with the circuitry of the vent valve or solenoid in the evaporative emission control system, responsible for managing the release of fuel vapors from the fuel tank.

Code symptoms P0449.

1. Illuminated “Check Engine” or “Service Engine Soon” light on the dashboard.
2. Strong fuel odor near the vehicle.
3. Rough engine idle or stalling.
4. Difficulty starting the engine.


This code is common in brands such as:: Chevrolet, Renault, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Mercedes Benz, Honda.

Causes of the code P0449.

1. Faulty vent valve or solenoid.
2. Wiring or connector issues in the vent valve circuit.
3. Corrosion or damage to the vent valve or solenoid.
4. Faulty Engine Control Module (ECM).


Code Solutions P0449.

1. Inspect the vent valve or solenoid for proper operation and replace if found faulty.
2. Check the wiring and connectors in the vent valve circuit for damage or corrosion and repair as necessary.
3. Ensure proper electrical connections to the vent valve or solenoid and repair any loose or damaged connections.
4. If other potential causes are ruled out, consider diagnosing and possibly replacing the ECM.
